Bethel Worship Notes-August 2011

By Pastor Glenn Winch |  August 1, 2011

Wow what a heat wave we all just encountered together here in Minnesota.  113 degree heat index several days in a row. Something I have never experienced before.  I hope all of you are well this summer. Our family just returned from a week of vacation in the great state of Wisconsin visiting my family.  We were able to visit the Chicago area and visit my sister and look at a potential future college for my daughter Rachael.  Prior to our vacation week, I had the opportunity to attend the 2011 Lifest in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.  Many Christian artists were at this festival including Jason Gray from the Mankato area.  Our family was able to help Jason out with some T-Shirt and CD sales after his concert there.  I had the opportunity to attend several seminars; one of the seminars I attended had some practical thoughts that I thought appropriate to share this month.

The Seminar was titled “What to do in times of Uncertainty.”  The person leading this seminar spoke of some challenges in his life and a 3 step exercise that he used as he sought God’s direction and leading in his time of uncertainty.

Step 1) Take an Inventory of Yourself – Start with 4 lists:  Your Gifts, Your Passions, Your Goals, and Your Dreams.  Notice how many, if not all of these are all connected.  After completing this list, attempt to put together a basic statement of purpose or vision for your life!

Step 2) Execution: put your gifts/ inventory into practice!!
Practice your inventory properly by serving others with them!!  Goals and Causes can help motivate us into putting our gifts/ passions into practice.  Pursue an attitude and heart of service!!

1 Peter 4:8-10 says:  Above all keep your love for one another fervent, because love covers a multitude of sins.  Show hospitality  to one another without complaining. Just as each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another.

Step 3) Surrender your will to God daily, This will lead to a change process in your life.  You will be transformed.              1 Cor. Chapter 13 states that,  “without love my gifts are nothing!”

God is more interested in who you are than what you do!  Our meaning, direction and certainty in life will be found by a focus on God and our complete surrender to him!

All of us face certain levels of uncertainty in our lives.  As we find ourselves in a moment of uncertainty, consider the steps suggested and surrender to what God may be asking you to do, one day at a time.

The Worship Ministry at Bethel is committed to leading others to respond to the grace, greatness and glory of God.  God’s richest blessings to all of you the rest of this summer, may you surrender your life to the Lord daily and watch what He does!

Serving our Lord Together!

Blessings,

Pastor Glenn
