Bethel Worship Notes-September 2011

By Pastor Glenn Winch |  August 30, 2011

Can you believe it, summer is almost done and a new school year is upon us?  This new school year brings us new challenges and new opportunities here in Mankato.  Fall is my favorite time of year and many times it has marked a new chapter in my life.  Many of you know I am a Green Bay Packer fan and am hoping for a repeat performance of last year.  Though I really enjoy football, there are some very important challenges ahead for the fall that I see on the horizon.

Currently I feel challenged to allow the Lord to open my eyes to the opportunities to make a positive impact in the lives around me.  I hope you can share this challenge with me as the Lord speaks to you.  It is easy to “settle” into my/our routines and forget that the Lord may be trying to re-align our lives to a new activity or assignment.  Not only is it easy to settle into our routines, sometimes our routines may just be eating up too much of our time.  These “routines” may bring comfort yet may not always be what the Lord has in mind for us to do.  What assignment has the Lord been speaking to you about lately?  Have you been listening?  As we worship together as a church family, we have and will continue to hear God speak to each of us as individuals if we tune into Him.

In I Samuel 3:10 Samuel says this to the Lord:  “Speak Lord for your servant hears.”  As we worship together, are we listening to what the Lord wants to say to each of us?  I firmly believe every week, even every day, God wants to tell us something.  I will ask again, are we listening?   Below is a brief excerpt from a response from one of our worship team leaders when they were asked why they worship and what worship means to them

I do think that whether we are “leading worship” or not, one of the things God wants from us is to be part of the work He is doing in the body each week – helping people “get the junk out of the way” so that God can speak.  I think when we let God work through our lives and shine through us on Sunday morning, we are part of the grace that God works in the lives of other worshippers around us.  God, somehow, by His Spirit working in and through us brings people (including us) into closer alignment with His purposes.  And not just through the worship team, per se, but through all who participate.  Our role as a worship team is a specific role.  It’s important that we do what we do really well because God deserves and loves that and He uses that as part of how He works His grace and causes that heightened alignment in people’s lives.

Are you listening, what is God saying to you today?  As you worship on Sunday and throughout the week, are you allowing God, through His Spirit, to work in you and align your life?  What possible new thing may He be asking of you this fall?

For the month of August at Bethel we have displayed 4 pieces of artwork (with different scriptures that are highlighted) on loan to us from Nick Cachiaras.  I would encourage you to check these out in the sanctuary.  If you want to know more about the artwork and the artist, please contact me or the church office.  .

The Worship Ministry at Bethel is committed to leading others to respond to the grace, greatness and glory of God.  I pray God’s richest blessings to all of you the rest of this summer and this coming fall.  May all of us listen and respond as God speaks to each of us!
