Go The Distance
By Pastor Dave Banfield | August 1, 2011
In a distance race the only runner who is a true failure is the one who fails to go the distance and finish the race. Several years ago we, as a congregation, decided to expand our facilities in order to further enhance our ministry. We have been experiencing the benefits of that decision. You could say that when we made that decision we entered a race. Even though the building is completed the race is not over. We still have a long way to go before we cross the finish line.
We have begun a new capital campaign to address the need to pay off our mortgage. We have named this campaign “Go the Distance”. Many years ago we made an intentional decision to keep the ministry budget and the mortgage payments separate. We did this so that the building would not overshadow the real business of the church, seeing lives transformed by the love of Christ. We asked people to commit to giving an amount, over and above their regular giving, to the mortgage payment. With this new campaign we are making the same request.
This is how the campaign will work.
1. Pray about how God would have you get involved in “Go the Distance”. This is a personal decision on your part. Remember we are asking that this be over and above your regular giving. Please do not just shift funds from General Giving to the Building Campaign.
2. Fill out a commitment card and indicate the amount you have decided to invest in the campaign. Place your completed card in one of boxes provided in the foyer and in the Flow. These cards are anonymous. No one will contact you in the future regarding your commitment. It is between you and the Lord.
3. When you give designate your gift to “Go the Distance” by using a church giving envelope or by marking your check for that purpose. All undesignated gifts automatically go into the General Fund; only those gifts designated for “Go the Distance” will be credited to that account.
4. Continue to pray that God will provide all that we need to accomplish all the He has planned for us.
We know that finances are tight for everyone, but if we work together we can go the distance in this race for the glory of God.
OUR NEED:
General Giving weekly need: $8,173
Go the Distance weekly need: $3,770
Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
2 Corinthians 9:6-8 (NIV)
