Notes from Pastor Bruce (Adult Ministries and stuff...)-August 2011
By Pastor Bruce Nelson | August 1, 2011
Baptism
At Bethel we practice New Testament believer’s baptism by immersion. We plan to have a baptismal service at the lake on August 14. If you are interested in being baptized or would like to visit with a pastor about this, please call the church office.
Discovery Class Update
We will be offering a Discovery Class in the fall. Due to some scheduling conflicts we will not have a class this summer. This class is the place to learn more about Bethel Baptist – what we believe, where we have come from, where we are headed, and how one can become a member of Bethel. Please let Christian Kohs or me know if you are interested in a class in the fall. We will meet for three hours in the evening. The date will be established later.
Men’s Fraternity
Watch for more information regarding Men’s Fraternity. We may be repeating the first 24-week phase and maybe starting the second phase.
S m a l l g r o u p s
All Bethel adults are encouraged to enjoy the fun, fellowship, caring, and growth that happens as we get together in smaller groups. For 9 or 10 weeks this fall beginning the end of September we will meet in small groups to study the Bible related to the Sunday morning message and it’s application to our daily lives. We will also consider ways in which we can serve and just have a good time together.
Expect coffee and cookies; bare feet and/or slippers; smiles, laughter, sometimes tears; the easy, comfortable feeling that you’re home – you belong here, want to be here; to sense that people really know you and care; to genuinely care for those you’re getting to know …
In August I’d like to have many of you offer to host/lead a group. As in the past, expect this to be easy and enjoyable. We’re not looking for Bible scholars, just those willing to serve by opening their home, sharing some refreshments, and leading a discussion time using prepared questions relating to the Sunday message and/or a DVD guide. Please plan to join us for a host orientation on Sun., Aug. 21 at 9:45 a.m. or at 7 p.m. If for some reason you can’t meet then, we will set up some alternate times during the week.
We will be inviting the congregation at large to register for small groups beginning the last Sunday of August. It will be important to know when host/leaders are planning on meeting so people can register accordingly. Many rich things can happen in a small group. Please be praying about hosting a group or for sure participating in one. You’ll be glad that you did!
