Psalm 19:1 says, “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” Have you ever looked around you and thought, “There must be something more than what I can see?” The Bible tells us there is a reason for this feeling; we were created to know our Creator (c.f., Genesis 2).

The reason we don’t know Him or see Him at work as we ought is because of the sin that has affected us all. Sin prevents us from close relationship with God. Have you ever thought about trying to get to know God but then felt overwhelmed or somehow prevented from doing so? God tells us this is because sin causes us to turn the other direction. He tells us that because of sin, not one of us is righteous on our own (c.f., Psalm 14:1-3). Scripture also says that “without holiness, no one will see the Lord” (Hebrews 12:14).

The Good news of the Gospel (the story of salvation) is that God has provided a way for us to have relationship with him again through faith in Jesus’ sinless life, lordship, and work on our behalf on the cross (c.f., Romans 10:9-11). He died as a sacrifice in our place.

If you would like to be certain of your standing with God, there are a few steps you can take:

First, admit you have sinned. “For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23) “If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.” (1 John 1:8)

Second, believe in Jesus. “For God so loved the world, that he gave His one and only Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

Third, confess and leave your sin. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9)

You could use the following prayer as a guide:

“Lord Jesus, I acknowledge that I am a sinner and I am sorry for my sin. Please forgive my sin and accept me as your child and servant. I desire to live for you and not myself. Thank you for dying on the cross for me. Amen.”

If you have prayed that prayer with sincerity, congratulations! You have begun to walk as a member of God’s forever family. This is just a first step. A next helpful step is to connect with a Bible-believing church. Feel free to come and join us in worship!
